What to Expect in a Social Skills Coaching Session at Strivesocial
Navigating the world of friendships and social interactions can be challenging for many people, but it doesn’t have to be. At Strivesocial, we specialise in delivering the Programme for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS®)—an evidence-based social skills intervention developed at UCLA. This program is designed to help individuals build and maintain meaningful friendships while improving overall social competence.
Here’s what you can expect when you book a session with Strivesocial:
How Sessions Are Structured
Each coaching session is conducted one-on-one via Google Meets, making it accessible from the comfort of your home. Sessions are typically 1 hour per week, though the schedule can be adjusted to suit your needs.
During our sessions, we’ll use a combination of:
Role-play videos to demonstrate social scenarios.
Step-by-step instructions to break down social interactions into manageable actions.
Personalised coaching tailored to your individual goals and challenges.
The program includes up to 14 sessions covering essential topics, but you’re welcome to pick and choose the subjects that matter most to you.
Topics Covered in the PEERS® Program
The PEERS® program is divided into sessions that focus on specific skills:
Types of Friends and Trading Information: Learn how to identify different types of friends and start meaningful conversations by trading information.
Two-Way Conversations: Master the art of balanced conversations—speaking, listening, and knowing when to take turns.
Finding a Suitable Source of Friends: Discover where and how to find people with shared interests and values.
Electronic Communication Do’s and Don’ts: Get tips for effective online communication, from texting to social media.
Entering and Exiting Group Conversations: Learn how to join group discussions naturally and gracefully bow out when needed.
Appropriate Use of Humour and Teasing: Understand when and how to use humour in a way that builds connections.
Good Sportsmanship: Explore how to win and lose gracefully in both sports and life.
Organising and Attending Get-Togethers: Practical tips for hosting and participating in social events.
Handling Disagreements: Develop strategies for managing conflicts while maintaining relationships.
Handling Direct Bullying: Learn how to deal with physical bullying assertively and safely.
Handling Indirect Bullying: Tackle cyberbullying, gossip, and other forms of indirect bullying effectively.
Customising Your Experience
While the program offers a comprehensive structure, it’s also highly adaptable. I recommend starting with the first three sessions if you're unsure where to begin. These foundational topics—covering conversational skills and friendship selection—are crucial for forming meaningful relationships.
Addressing Common Concerns
“Do I have to commit to the entire program?”
Not at all! You can start with a single session to see if it’s the right fit for you.
“What if I only need help with specific topics?”
That’s perfectly fine. You can choose the sessions most relevant to your needs.
“How much does it cost?”
Each session costs $80, payable within 7 days of the appointment. If using NDIS, we work with you to fit your NDIS requirements.
